  • Birth*: Jean/Jane Doig was born on 17 July 1857 at Forfar, Forfarshire, Scotland, ; Jean was born at 0005 on the 17th July 1857 in Horsewater Wynd, Forfar. She was illegitimate therefore no name for her father, though on 4th Jan 1858 Ann appeared before the Forfar Kirk Session and accused Frederick Thom, Mason, South Loan, who acknowledged that the child was his (Book of Discipline). Her mother was Ann Doig, handloom weaver. William Doig, Jean's grandfather registered the birth on the 5th August 1857 at Forfar, Registrar John Webster.1

  • (Bride) Marriage*: Jean/Jane Doig married James Ferrier on 15 February 1878 at Forfar, Forfarshire, Scotland, ; James Ferrier and Jane Thom were married on the 15th February 1878 at 13 Horse Water Wynd, Forfar, after Banns according to the Forms of the Church of Scotland. James was 20 years old, a bachelor, and a factory worker, residing at 26 Canmore Street, Forfar. Jane was 20 years old, a spinster, a factory yarn winder, residing at 13 Horse Water Wynd, Forfar. James's parents were Peter Ferrier, general labourer, and Elspeth Martin. Jane's parents were Frederick Thom, stone mason, and Ann Doig, linen weaver, afterwards married to James Waddel, general labourer. The minister was George J. Caie, minister of Forfar, and the witnesses were Robert Petrie and Jessie Smith. The marriage was registered on the 18th February 1878 at Forfar, Registrar W. H. Thomson.1
  • (Deceased) Death*: Jean/Jane Doig died on 12 September 1943 at Forfar, Forfarshire, Scotland, , at age 86 Jean died at 1630 on the 12th September 1943 in 8 Glamis Road, Forfar. She was 86 years old and the widow of James Ferrier, a nurseryman. Her mother was Ann Doig, linen weaver, afterwards married to Frank Anderson, jute worker (deceased). (No mention of James Waddel?) Cause of death as certified by Kathleen Burgess MD was valvular cardiac disease, congestive heart failure. Her son David Ferrier residing at 9 Albert Street, Forfar, registered the death on the 13th September 1943 at Forfar, Registrar Wm. Rodger. (from JBW Sept 2007.)
