  • Birth*: Helen Stewart was born in 1847 at Forfar, Forfarshire, Scotland, .1
  • (Bride) Marriage*: She married David Ormond Doig, son of William Doeg and Betty Cable, on 1 January 1872 at Parish Manse, Forfar, Forfarshire, Scotland, ; David and his brother Adam arrived from Glasgow to New York City on the ship "Iowa" on 23 Aug 1869. In 1870 David was a stonecutter in the 8th Ward, Paterson, NJ (page 668) with his brother Adam and Andrew Kidd (55 Scotland), weaver in a cotton mill with land valued at $3,000 and personal assets of $100, and his wife Ann Kidd (55 Scotland). David appears to have fled from Helen Stewart who was with child, but he decided to do the honorable thing and returned to Scotland to marry her. In 1871 David was a journeyman mason living at 3 Charles Street, Forfar. In 1881 he was a mason in Forfar. Helen was a factory worker living at 10 West High Street when she married. Her mother was deceased at the time of her marriage.1
